Azure West US Outage Also Blocked Windows 11 and Microsoft Store Updates
The 23 July Azure routing failure extended beyond M365, disrupting Windows Update and Microsoft Update services and preventing Windows 11 security and Microsoft Store app downloads. Microsoft confirmed the impact on Windows Update around 11:15 AM PST and noted that WSUS was also affected. The bug remains listed on the Windows Release Health page even after M365 service restoration.

Microsoft's July 2026 Copilot release officially makes M365 a multi-model, agent-driven platform with GPT-5.6 as the new default and Anthropic's Claude Sonnet 5 as a user-selectable option — a significant shift from a single-vendor AI model. MSPs managing tenants should audit AI-provider settings immediately: eligible commercial tenants are auto-enabled for all OpenAI-operated models from 24 July unless admins opt out under Copilot → Settings → AI providers. Copilot Studio and Foundry agent security protections (discovery, posture, threat detection) now require a Microsoft Agent 365-eligible licence — if unlicensed, those protections switched off on 1 July.
